Did you know that foods have energetic properties?


It's true.....


It is also true that each food affects our body and mind.

When using food to improve your health, you must consider a few things.


  1. Your primary Body-Mind type

  2. The strength of your digestion

  3. Which foods will get you back to balance based on how you feel


One example is if you are a primary Airy and today, you're feeling cold, light, ungrounded, and you have dry skin, you want to focus on warm, heavy, dense, and moist foods. These will restore harmony while supporting proper digestion.


As you practice this way of eating and working with your body, it becomes easier to eat for your primary type and adjust for how you feel. You can go one step further and use the different properties and tastes of food to take your healing to the next level.


The five main properties of food are based on how we experience them in the different phases of digestion, and they include:

  1. The way food taste

  2. The way food feels

  3. The way food acts

  4. The way food transforms

  5. The way foods heal

There are 6 different primary flavors we experience when we eat.

  1. Sweet

  2. Sour

  3. Salty

  4. Bitter

  5. Pungent

  6. Astringent

Each flavor or taste has a specific physical and emotional effect on our wellbeing. When we eat these foods in balance, we can enjoy the nutritional benefits; however, we can see adverse effects in the body and mind when we enjoy them in excess.


Sweetness, for example, can provide us with energy, love, pleasure, and satisfaction when in balance. However, when we eat sweet flavored foods in excess, we might experience physical symptoms such as congestion, edema, indigestion, obesity, oily skin, and puffy eyes. The emotional effects include greed, attachment, lethargy, and laziness, to mention a few.


Salty helps with circulation, appetite control, digestion and is a flavor enhancer. When in excess, we experience hyperacidity, high blood pressure, skin rashes, swelling, and inflammation a known cause of pain. Emotional effects include greed and addiction.


Let's take this one step further......


Have you ever thought about the way food feels? To be more specific, how it feels in your stomach once you eat?

We can tell by how our foods feel once they are in our stomach whether or not they were the best match.


Some examples of how foods feel or how you might describe them include:

Heavey

Cold

Bulky

Light

Sharp

Hard


We can also focus on the way foods feel to help us promote better health. Here are a few examples of how you can use the way food feels to make better food choices—for example, heavy includes meat, fried foods, dairy, sweets, and wheat. Notice how the foods in this group are not the best food choices. These foods often make us feel heavy and weighed down after eating them.


Bulky includes meat and grains. Again, depending on the type of meat and grains you eat, you may experience unpleased digestive issues after eating these foods. Hot includes ginger, chilies, garlic, and alcohol. When you think hot, you might think it's best to stay away. However, when balancing your primary Body-Mind type, if you are an Airy, for example, and feeling cold, you would want to focus on foods in the hot category for balancing.


Light includes puffed rice, popcorn, and leafy greens. These foods don't make us feel as full. Instead, you may feel satisfied without feeling weighed down.
